Military Stocks

Dunlap Woodcrafts is proud to announce the availability of direct copies of stocks
for many popular U.S. and European military rifles and muskets manufactured between
1730 and 1950. Replacement stocks for several of the most common reproduction of
the mid-eighteenth century muskets are also available.

All of the above replacement stocks are being produced from master patterns copied
directly from top quality original guns of each type. The wood for all of the American
and British produced weapons is veneer grade, kiln-dried American black walnut unless
otherwise specified. The wood for the Austrian and German produced weapons will
be beech, unless otherwise specified. All metal parts fits are planned to within
.005 of the original parts size (normally will be cut undersize if off at all).
Only the inter portions of the buttplate and the square portion of the breech, where
the round cutter can not cut a square corner, need to be fit on all of the stocks.
Most parts fits are press in fit with original parts. All external wood surfaces
are planned to be .020 oversize to allow for finish sanding. The ramrod hole is
drilled in all models originally having ramrods. Experienced gunsmiths have final-assembled
several of the models listed below with all original parts en less than 12 hours.

In addition to all of the available stocks patterns listed below, we can serve small
numbers of replacement stocks directly from the stocks from your original guns with
modification as specified. Please contact me by any of the means above for quotes
on time, prices, and any additional information required.

1795/1808 Musket Stock

This high quality stock is a composite of four original stocks and can be finished
to the pattern carved or can be varied to copy a variety of slightly smaller original
individual stocks. Since the 1795 musket parts were all hand-made, almost all parts
vary in size from one musket to another. Therefore, only the lock internals are
inlet, leaving enough wood to final inlet the variety of original lock plates. The
inletting for the buttplate and trigger guard is undersize and requires detailed
fitting of these parts. The stock forearm is long enough to permit the use of up
to a 45-inch long barrel.

1814 and 1817 Common Rifle Stocks

to permit a better final fit of original parts.

1816 and 1842 Springfield Musket Stocks

Each of these stocks was copied from excellent quality original guns with all parts
final fit except the locks on the 1816 model, which are cut .040 undersize to permit
the final fitting of the original locks which varied slightly because of manual
reproduction. Special orders for extra wood remaining around the rear portion of
the lock mortise on the 1842, to finish the Model 1835 variation, are available
upon request.

1819 and 1841 Hall Rifle Stocks

This stock was copied from an excellent quality original 1819 model. It has been
inletted for the barrel, receiver. Buttplate and ramrod- channel. By requesting
that the inletting for the trigger guard plate be omitted, the stock can be reworked
to fit the M-1841 Hall. Additionally, this stock can be used for the 1836 Hall Carbine
by requesting that the trigger plate not be inletted. By shortening the forearm
and using a modified dovetail bit, the ramrod channel can be fitted for the ramrod
bayonet.

Model 1841 or Mississippi Rifle

This stock is for the one rifle and has everything final fit except the buttplate,
the band-keeper springs and the nosecap. The stock can be special- ordered without
to patchbox and sideplate to produce the Confederate model, and/or with the metal

Potzdam Infantry Musket

This copy of a fine German infantry musket is carved with the barrel channel to
dimension and the inletting for the other parts approximately .035 undersize allow
for the minor variations in the original parts dimensions between the various German
armories. The stock will be carved from American-grown beech unless otherwise specified.
Due to major problems trying to duplicate the semi-enclosed ramrod channel, all
stocks will be cut with a 1/4 in wide ramrod channel and drilled with a 1/4 in ramrod
drill. For those individuals trying to exactly duplicate the original stocks, we
will special cut for a smaller ramrod channel, but will not drill for the ramrod
hole.

This copy of a fine Austrian weapon, which was available in both rifled and smooth-bore
models, is carved to the dimension of the original parts. The stock will be carved
from American-grown beech unless otherwise specified. Due to major problems trying
to duplicate the semi-enclosed ramrod channel, all stocks will be cut with a 1/4
in wide ramrod channel and drilled with a 1/4 in ramrod drill. For those individuals
trying to exactly duplicate the original stocks, we will special cut for a smaller
ramrod channel, but will not drill for the ramrod hole.
